Mission & Philosophy

About Us

We will become a model urban middle school in preparing our students for the learning demands of the 21st century. It is our collective responsibility to create a safe, healthy, and positive learning environment that engages all students in rigorous and relevant academic work that will result in high levels of achievement and will prepare them for success in high school leading to college and career readiness.

James Madison Morton is a Learning Community consisting of scholars, faculty, staff and families. We are working to make the school the hub of the community. Various community events are held throughout the year as a way to engage parents and students. We offer a number of after-school activities for students which include sports in all three seasons, drama club, Unified Arts and Coaching for Change. At MMS, we put an emphasis on the whole student and understand the importance of our Unified Arts as part of a well-rounded student.

What began just seven years ago with about 10 students has grown into an award-winning program—now one of the largest AP Research programs in the country.
